ALLERGY ATTACK? TRY ADDING AN AIR PURIFIER TO YOUR HOME

When it comes to fighting allergies, controlling the source of the contaminants is a great way to reduce exposure to allergens.

We already shared several tips for doing that, including frequent vacuuming with a HEPA filter, washing bedding in hot water and taking measures to reduce the chance for allergens to enter your rooms.

Room air treatment systems

Another strategy is to clean the air in your room with an air treatment system.

Research shows that the air inside your home can be more polluted than the air outdoors – up to five times more. In addition to allergens like pollen, fungi and mold, indoor air can contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and formaldehyde.

While pollutants in outside air naturally dissipate into the atmosphere, indoor air pollution stays put for much longer, especially in newer homes that are tightly sealed for energy efficiency.

Take control over your air

“Clean air should be a priority yet many of us can’t control the quality of the air we breathe most of the time,” says Austin Teerman, air filtration engineer at Amway. “An air treatment system combats the presence of indoor air pollution by removing allergens and other pollutants from the air passing through its filters. It gives you some control.”

A quality air treatment system can help clean room air by effectively removing airborne particulates from the air passing through the unit. The particulate filter in the Atmosphere Sky™ system by Amway, which is part of a three-filter system, removes 99.99% of airborne particles as small as 0.007 microns from air passing through it and achieves better than HEPA rated particulate filtration.

When searching for a room air cleaner, you want to compare the clean air delivery rate (CADR) and the size of the room in which it is effective. At speed 5, the Atmosphere Sky™ unit has a CADR that’s no less than 300 – which will help clean the air and remove odors in rooms up to 43.5 m2 (465 sq. ft.).

Internet of Things

The Atmosphere Sky™ unit also uses IoT technology (Internet of Things) to maximize function. It has a companion app that allows you to control the unit from almost anywhere using a smartphone like a remote control. Users can adjust settings, order filters and monitor indoor air quality.

“Amway continually studies global indoor air quality and user experience trends to fuel product development,” Teerman says. “The Atmosphere Sky™ Air Treatment System leverages our expertise in both areas and bridges the gap to provide an innovative solution that is connected, convenient and controlled.”

Where should you put your room air treatment system? Wherever you spend the most time. Typically, that is the bedroom, Teerman says.

“You want to breathe clean air all night,” he says.
